Yellow Wolf (Famous Nez Perce Warrior)
Yellow Wolf had to go back to the camp, which was under attack by soldiers. At the camp there were only elders, women and children. All of the men had gone for salmon.
There was only one way to go straight through them. Close to the camp they killed his horse. He jumped over it and walked toward rocks and fallen trees while the soldiers were shooting at him. They could not kill him.
Yellow Wolf: I painted my hair with white earth as the spirit told me. They had to obey or they would lose their powers.

This painting shows Geronimo when he hastened to the camp of his favorite sister and climbed a mountain to pray alone for 4 days and nights with no food . On the 5th day as he lifted his hands and eyes toward the east his power spoke: “The child will be born and your sister will live. You will never be killed with weapons but will live to an old age.” And so it happened. |
